Electron clouds

Fly through the electron clouds of the hydrogen atom and the water molecule. Brightness is the probability of finding an electron; colour is the sign of the wavefunction (amber +, blue −). The dots are sampled "sightings" of the electron. Each scene is a video, and a page you can explore yourself: drag to orbit, scroll to fly in and out, pick any orbital.

The hydrogen atom

The exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation: 1s to 4f, radial and angular nodes, and a superposition that sloshes like the dipole that emits light.

Water, H₂O

Quantum chemistry (PySCF, aug-cc-pVTZ): the total density, the five occupied molecular orbitals, and what bonding changed. About 80 MB of grids to load.
